What it costs: start with the audit

Most chatbot and LLM integrations land in the $2,000-$8,000 range. The audit is one week, fixed price, quoted on the call - you get a build-ready spec naming the 2-3 highest-ROI integrations for your codebase, with cost, latency, and risk spelled out. If the honest answer is “AI doesn't help here,” you'll get that in writing instead, and it costs you the call.

What happens on the call

Thirty minutes, no deck. You describe the workflow that hurts - the one eating staff hours, or the feature your users keep asking for. I ask what your stack is, where the data lives, and what volume it runs at, because those three answers decide whether a model is the right tool or an expensive way to do a database query.

You leave with a straight answer on whether AI helps, a rough cost band, and the honest version of how long it takes. If it is worth building, the audit is the next step and I quote it there, fixed, before it starts. If it is not, I will say so on the call - that outcome costs you half an hour and nothing else.

When I am not the right hire

Cheaper to read this now than to find out in week two.

  • You need a team by Monday. I am one person with a calendar, and I take on work I can finish myself.
  • You want a chatbot because a competitor shipped one. I will ask what it is for, and if there is no answer I will tell you so.
  • You are pre-product and want someone to decide what to build. That is a product problem, and an engineer is the wrong first hire for it.
  • You need someone on-site, or in a timezone that means my working day is your night. Contract work worldwide is real, but the overlap has to exist.
  • You want the model to make a decision nobody can be accountable for. Anything touching money, health, or someone's livelihood needs a human in the loop, and I build it that way or not at all.
